ORIGINAL 1990 ROD CROSSMAN (b 1952) "CASTING TIME" PAINTING. This is just a great original piece. This is the first time I have ever owned a painting by Rod Crossman. I actually have seen a few in some high end sporting art collections I have worked with in the past but never owned one. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. This is actually one of the better works I have seen by the artist. Actually it looks as though the artist gave it to the "Manresa Retreat House" as he has inscribed it to them on the back in pen.
"May the house be filled with blessings" signed and dated by Crossman as well as titled and the tag line "How do you spend your time". A wonderful oil or acrylic on artist's panel measuring 8 x 12 inches. Painting is a wonderful image of a man alone casting his line from the river's edge.
Painting is in gorgeous clean condition. Truly, one of the artist's finest examples of the sporting artist's fisherman work.Original wood frame with liner is in excellent condition and makes a great presentation of this fine work. Do your own research on this artist and his work like this. It very rarely comes to market. Frame measures 12 1/4 x 16 1/4 inches. For those not familiar with the artist, his biography from a gallery that sells the artist's work reads: Rod Crossman was born in South Dakota, raised in upstate New York, and now lives in Indiana, where he makes his living creating paintings and being Artist in Residence at Indiana Wesleyan University. Growing up he was the son of an outdoorsman and learned to love nature on wonderful family outings. Those times and memories have had a profound effect on his work.
He attended Indiana Wesleyan on a basketball scholarship and graduated from there in 1976 with a degree in art. Rod also studied in Italy for a period through the Herron School of Art. Sargent and Homer are his fathers in paint.Rods paintings can be seen regularly in many of the best sporting magazines, journals, and galleries. His work has been exhibited and collected worldwide including places like the Smithsonian, Chicago Art Institute, Woodson Art Museum, Ward Museum, High Museum and many others. He has designed Trout and Duck stamps for several states. He likes to paint most about the moments between the action. His favorite words are''Awe'' and''Wonder.
' These are the emotions that lead us into that incredible sense of mystery when we consider the creation. Rod's paintings are about the mysterious and invisible moments that surround the outdoor experience.
